Where have you been Coach? We made you a rep and then you disappeared, WTF?
Well, we're having a new house build and now it's complete and hopefully we'll be moving next week. Along with that comes the need to sell our current house. And while we do have a buyer we haven't been able to get an appraisal because the house isn't in the same shape it was in when we refinanced two years ago.
After we refied we decided to start a remodel of the basement bathroom, so we gutted it and never got around to actually finishing. Now we need to get it done so the house will have the same (or hopefully more) value that it had two years ago. So just about every night after the kids are in bed I've been working my second job, bathroom remodeling.
The shower area was down to bare studs (forgot to take pics of that), and there was mold on the bottom sections of dry wall, so we had to tear that out too.
Here's the dry wall (actually cement board or Hardibacker) installed.
Shower
and wall
Applying the damn drywall compound and then sanding was nearly a week long project in itself because I had to wait for each coat to dry. It's bad enough sanding in a large room, but the volume of dust in a space with no ventilation was amazing. I would be caked in the shit. I was constantely stopping to clean my goggles and I wnet through 3 dustmasks during the process.
Once we finished that mess it took another 3 days for pianting; one to prime, and the one day for each coat. (Once again I forgot to take pics).
Last week we got the shower surround installed.
and pic of the paint color. (I don't care for it, but the new owners picked it out)
We installed the door on Saturday
(Yep, that's a door)
Installed the floor on Sunday
And the sink cabinet last night. So far this is the easiest thing I've done, and even that had problems.
This week we'll finish the basboards and trim. I'm getting a pro to install the plumbing for the sink, toilet, and shower since I'm not well versed in it, and it could be a real mess if I fuck it up.
I'm rather proud of the work I've done, but it's been a pain in the ass at nearly every step. I swear nothing in the room was square or level. Every thing I thought would be easy has taken at least three extra steps. For example the sink cabinet is open at the back to allow the plumbing to come in, it should just screw into the wall and be done. Except the brace on the back had to be notched out 3/4 inch because our pipes ran into it. And of course the floor isn't level so that getting the shimes right to level the cabinet both side-to-side and front-to-back was a bit of a pain too.
I can't wait to get settled into the new house and (maybe, hopefully, please god in heaven let me finally) relax and have some time to play.
