A vast improvement over the last fugly Indycar effort I'll admit. Not having that F1 sail on the engine cover is the most noticeably nice thing. Give it a year tops though and that will be stuck with a humungous lump of scaffolding around the drivers face too i betcha . I would like to share a brainwave wot I had the other night with all ye many gathered here too, whereby, we can all experience what some think is the future of Motor Racing, right now!. Next time we are watching our fave Motor Racing event, turn the volume way down to just barely above that of a sparrows guff. That's it. Brilliant no?. Then you can go on to imagine the likelihood of you or anyone else springing sizeable chunks of cash to actually go and see that in real life . Never, never, never, never happening...is it? .

It's a beaut for sure.
What strange alternate universe do we live in, where American motor sports look better than the ROW? (even though Indycars and the DPi/LMP2S are euro developed)
Please trak, stop this insanity. Give me the screaming of a v8, or give me death!

Oooooooooooooooh S!. Indycars dunt look better than F1 to me m8. F1 has the finesse in detailing and design (because rules and cash/manpower available for the job) that intrigues and fascinates me in a way those admittedly nice looking more-or-less stockers can't quite. F1 will probably lose the sail next year so a clear win for F1 . Shit...forgot about the incoming FALO

If I was to compare the 2018 Indycar, to the 2016 F1 cars, it's pretty clear which car makes my heart race. Hopefully F1 goes with the shield and puts the Halo to bed once and for all.

If head protection is so important to the FIA why isn't the halo being implemented in FE? They're getting a new chassis in 2018, sure they have time to include the halo in the design.

...and further, is it only F.1 drivers heads that are vulnerable then?. It is a rule that should surely apply to all open cockpit motorsport if based on safety is it not?. I'm certain the many open cockpit/single seater/open wheel chassis manufacturers will be positively delighted to be having to include it in to their next designs.

This past weekend was the Monterey Motorsports Reunion up in Laguna Seca. lots of classic race cars brought out to take some laps, mainly american sportscars, but they have a few other classics, including my all time favourite sports car, the Mazda 787B. now with the addition of visor cams, it makes ride alongs, that much more intense! Mazda 787B
RX-7 GTO
'68 911 TR
AAR Eagle Mk III definitely one of the most fascinating of the bunch.
'80 935 K3
and lastly, Tom Kristensen and his Audi R8(the dominatrix of 2000s endurance racing)
tons more can be found on the racer youtube channel.

When I first heard of the WEC, I was super excited to see a worldwide endurance championship at the highest possible level. The news of Porsche pulling out, with Toyota possibly not far behind, FIA had to do something drastic. I was planning on attending Daytona24hrs in 2018, but now, Sebring 2019, two 12 hour races in the span of 26 hours, with the best sportscars and endurance racers in the world, it is now absolutely irresistible. It's also good to hear they're redoing the 2020 regulations, and relaxed regs for the next few years, which is virtually damage control. Sadly no DPi as of yet, but I could see and would welcome DPi 2.0 being a tandem project between IMSA and the ACO. www.fiawec.com/en/news/new-look-strengthened-fia-world-endurance-championship-for-the-future/5354

Hmmm. IMSA, F.I.A and ACO working together. Hold that thought s . Had a brief look without understanding much of the backpeddling the ACO has done of late but that horse, bolted, already has, is the thought that comes to mind. Endurance racing looks to me at the moment like a bit of a headless chicken to be muddled through until someone thinks of a better plan. Hope they get it sorted but how?. F.1 has to make the same kind of very difficult decisions about where it's going power train-wise soonish too.

10 years in Singapore, and Vettel celebrates by smashing his WDC title hopes into a million pieces and leaking it around the track. Poor Fernando, would've been as high as 2nd after the first lap, but gets taken our by Kimi via Vestappen
IMSA's Champioship returns to the one of the most famous American racetracks, in Laguna Seca. Now If this battle from a few years ago is a hint for this weekend's race, it'll be a must-watch forsure! The Taylor Bros. and their Cadillac DPi have a sizeable lead over the rest of the prototype field, but being the last race before Petit LeMans, expect the rest of them to give the Taylors' a run for their money. Speaking of Petit, I'm hopeful we'll see a Penske-Oreca on track, not taking practice laps, but competing for the win in the 10 hour endurance race. JPM is a lock, and it sounds like Helio loved testing the DPi, so seeing him at Petit is likely. As for a third driver, I would expect Pagenaud to return to the fold as one of the lead drivers. Also looking forward to seeing some WEC drivers at Petit, Brendan Hartley <3 and Rebellion Racing with Neel Jani.

Good job I wasn't judge and jury after that race. Vettels fault 100%. He made a very average start and knew he would have to cover against anyone who made a good one. Looks across and sees M.V (non title contender) coming and cuts hard to the "wrong" side of the track to cut him off...kerpow. Quite possibly Ferraris challenge for manufacturers and drivers championship over. No apologies or public sign of taking responsibility etc. What a dick.

Indeed a complete ****. Even the Ferrari Tweeter account condemned Verstappen.

What made it even better/worse was when Ferrari instantly tweeted it was verstappens vault...then quickly deleting the tweet a couple of hours later. Was gutting for Raikonen and mostly Alonso. Vettel obviously didn't bet on Raikonnen having such a good start either. Lewis must have had the hugest grin when he saw all that happen over the first few corners. Some pretty good aggressive driving from Magnussen again as well! "Suck my balls"

How about Palmer making a legitimate pass on Bottas? That was the second most stunning moment of the race.

It's not just the quantity of the entries, but the quality as well. Newcomers Penske, WEC's Rebellion, ELMS's United AutoSport, just to name a few! It's pleasantly astonishing as to the amount of high quality race teams making the trip across the pond, and from the States as well. The "Golden Age of Sportscar Racing" has just swapped from WEC to IMSA. onto F1 where Max Verstappen cuts corners and gets awkwardly told to GTFO of the post race podium room. I feel for him, but he's young, he'll have a ton more races to beat Hamilton's all-time podium mark. streamable.com/mi32j

10 seconds penalty for Seb using his car as a weapon at Baku, Verst 5 seconds for being a brilliant racer. Seems consistant to me. What's the problem?.

welp the Ferrari International Assistance Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile always has been consistent and will continue to be for all of time.
as for Ferrari, they pretty much have given away their chances at a WDC this year. They need to step it up, because McLaren Renault will fare much better next year, Not podium finishers, but in the top 6 atleast.
Bottas has been ok this year, but how much longer does he stay that way? or until Merc replaces him, and with who?
Kyvat has been dumped by RedBull/STR officially now, who replaces him? is this Brendan Hartley's job to lose? and where does Kyvat end up? buying a backmarker seat at Sauber? head to a WEC/Formula E seat? I dont see him crossing the pond for IMSA, though having him in an IndyCar wouldn't be the worst thing.

That's that then. A season that promised much but that will be remembered for the protracted Ferrari implosion above all. Congrats to Lewlew. Well deserved, just about flawless and able to turn on near perfection at a moments notice. How any of them can get in a car that is quite a bit different(read faster)than the race car and extract all of it's performance over just one flying lap is one of the measures of the difference between us and them. Lew has proved himself to be the absolute master of the single lap flyer and wasn't too shabby on any given Sunday either. Still think his public persona is a bit dickish myself (when did god start helping you out Lew?. It seems like he would be a bit busy talking to lawyers re ppl still constantly and randomly offing other ppl in his name to be fussed about the driving ability of a multi-millionaire to me but what do I know)

I see the new owners of F1's 2021 engine proposals went down with the major players just about as well as I thunk it would then with Merc and Renault pointing out a few practical flaws with the plan (whatever anyone thinks, it will be a new engine and would again cost bucket loads to develop)and Ferrari, predictably, threatening to quit if things don't go exactly how they would like them to, stating they have no interest in competing in a kind of global Nascar type thang. Fair enough.
The owner's are still looking to increase engine noise and proposed raising the rev limit by 3,000rpm (which is something like 5/6k more than they currently use because it is not "efficient" to go beyond that. Tricky then...or is it?. Quietly get shot of fuel flow regs (no-one will know or care less)and Bob's your close relative init?.

The end is near. After a career of having to live upto his father's name, Jr is hanging it up. He didn't have quite the career people were hoping for. But he did accomplish quite alot, except a Driver's Championship. but it didn't deter fans from cheering him on during his winless droughts. Fans kept showing up in droves, and cheered him on everytime he led, so loud, you couldn't hear the roar of the 43 Stock Cars. A Championship would've been nice. But seeing him, retire happy, on his own terms, makes me, and countless others happy. He's such a down to earth person, its awesome.

Beat me to it coach. Thanks. Saved me some severe technology induced mental stress there.
Now this incident was as ultimately funny as a funny thing can be but sadly, also today in Macau, Dan Hegarty a well known British motorcycle road racer, lost his life.
It's a shame.

I saw that. It's amazing to me that in today's risk adverse world they are still holding motorcycle street races. I'm not advocating that they be shutdown, I think they're thrilling to watch, it just amazes me that the powers that be haven't clamped down.
On a brighter note, both F3 races were thrillers this weekend. That finish on Sunday.. wow!

Well there it was. Another season over, another 4 month's worth of hibernation to survive till it all starts again :/.
It's been pretty entertaining all in all and of course the result of a 4th champeenship for Lewlew suited me well and I particularly enjoyed Seb's overaggresive tactics (imho) in Singapore singlehandedly scuppering his and his team's season.
As always, I will look forward to watching (maybe for the last time due to SKY greed) the coming season with my usual mix of interest and quiet foreboding concerning the sport's future direction with it's new (showbiz, showbiz) owners and all.

Did anyone watch the F2 sprint race? I swear the junior categories are more exciting than the big show. That finish was amazing, a great battle capped by a real non-DRS aided pass. i can't wait to see LeClerc in an F1 car.

R.I.P Dan Gurney. Legend. No other way to describe him, truly one of the legendary figures in motorsports, both off an on the track. Wins in open wheel, sports and endurance cars and stock cars, gave us the Gurney flap, first person to spray champagne after winning at Le Mans(probably scared the shit out of Foyt), and first driver to use his brain(uncommon in his time) and wear a full face helmet in F1. I don't know of any documentary of his life, but I'm pretty sure it'll be one of the best ones made to date. His life is an amazing story. A pioneer, a legend, Godspeed Dan.

Just a quick wee Trak rant that both of my readers may find amusing re the "rumour" in the motoring press today that the Fuji 6hrs endurance race may change it's proposed date to accommodate one Mr F. Alonso as it clashes with the U.S G.P. F.f.s! McLaren, so shit scared of losing the driver that has crapped in his own bed (including theirs not so long ago after running away crying because McL wouldn't and couldn't make Lewis play number 2 to him) so often that he has nowhere left to go any more. Ferrari wouldn't touch him with a bargepole either now they know better and as long as Lewlew is at Merc same deal. He knows what a **** he is although he respects, as we mostly all do, his driving ability. They renege on a contract with Honda saying that F.A had F.A to do with that decision as did Fred (I know nothing coughsingaporegatecough) Alonso himself (yeah right). They pay him more than anyone else on the grid. Allow him to do Indy last year. Sign up with Toyota this year for as many LMP races as he can fit in between his day job commitments, including LeMans, (because his reputed 20mil a year needs topping up i guess, he won't be doing that for free) thus booting Ant Davidson who has been with Toyota since 2014 into a testing and development role and now a rumour of a date change to a race just so they can fit his sorry ass into a car. BTW, Lando Norris was faster and better than you at Daytona Fred. Move it. You're welcome
