It takes me a good amount of time to just get ready to play GTA Online. With a combination of the loading screens, connecting to a server, finding someone available to play with, connecting to a mission, then starting mission the next thing you know 15 minutes or more are gone. An hour can fly by after a couple of races, change my shirt, and buying some Pisswasser. This is a common scenario I have been experiencing when I first load GTAV: Start game loads to SP > Start Menu Friends tab > try to join friends game > loading screen….. session unavailable > drops me into random FR session > exit GTAO to SP (so can load crew or invite session) > in session and get mission invite from friend on phone, try to connect > session full drops back into random FR session > ARG! This may repeat a few times before I finally connect with a crew member or friend that I want to play with. Is a bit frustrating and very time consuming. So am I doing it wrong? Is this what everyone is doing?

You're doing nothing wrong, actually. This also happens to me, but it's something that's pretty normal in GTA games. The loading times are usually long and there will be connection issues. GTA 4's loading times were also very long and I'm thinking that they should add some sort of shortcut to go to an invite only session from an online FR lobby. It takes too much time to load into SP and then Multiplayer again.

You can try to join freind's sessions or crew from the online tab on GTAO. That will save you some time.

This is how I always start my sessions. Start up game and let it load into single player > start Online and go directly into an Invite only session. At this point is one or two things. I look for a txt message from Simeon to see if there are any vehicle to grab, if there are I head out and find a Baller along the way to sell then grab one of those Simeon vehicles and turn it in. OR. I will bring up friends list and see who is on and either join their session or ask what is going on. With all the random killing that is always going on in open FR sessions, I never just load straight into FR from starting the game.

My routine is load is to single player > invite only > sell a car > look who's online > prepare for loading screens.
I like the chat being there all the time now 'cause you can just drop a msg asking if anyone is racing

Usually, my routine is just:
Check who's online > Load up GTA > Single Player > Invite Only Session > Do missions with randoms or race with crew members.
Then. Just change all the >'s with loading times HAHA

it is especially frustrating after doing a playlist and everyone gets split up, the time to go back to SP > inv only > send inv > wait to join can be 5 mins or more,,, and i misss you guys while im looking at a birds eye view of LS you can launch straight into online from the SP loading screen (pressing X on ps3, presumably A on Xbox??) but theres no way to start an invite only session while your already in online... thats a real faux pas IMO as dropping back to SP first doubles your time looking at loading screens... if for any reason you hear me playing guitar through my mic, its because ive been stuck in the same loading patterns for a while and got bored waiting Is everyone on PS3 using the chat room these days... im glad to see thats working well for people who do

With the latest patch when I am online and chose the find new session, it puts me right back into an invite only, not sure why. I would also like to know why you can not choose an invite only while being online Mo-seph. It baffles me.

You can try to join freind's sessions or crew from the online tab on GTAO. That will save you some time. When I try this I usually get one of two things: session unavailable or cannot connect. Sometimes I get a message that person is in a mission do I wat to spectate, I select Yes and half of the time it drops me into random FR session.

It definitely isn't something you can hop on for an hour of play and actually accomplish anything.
One thing I could suggest is that instead of invite only, as no one can search for crew and join that, you should start using the crew only sessions and setting it to 2 crews. This allows other crew members to drop in on you by "join crew session" and also allows you to have a non crew friend drop in by joining your session specifically.

I agree with Luap, its likely if your (for example) picking me and trying to join my session i may already be in invite only... thats the "cannot connect" message i think... i often use invite only when doing solo runs for the weekly challenge, as when i quit out ill send invites to yourself or any other RRR online, as well as new potential recruits or trusted non members (eg. lazyboy8..)

That makes sense Mo-seph. I did goto an Invite Only session but am now choosing the Crew Session with 4 selected.

Have they fixed this function though? I have done this a number of times, start a closed crew session with 4 and asked Luap to join and he couldn't. At a different time, with my old crew it worked. So I have found it to be spotty.

I think closed crew may be invite only crew...there is another crew option that isn't closed.

With all the random killing that is always going on in open FR sessions, I never just load straight into FR from starting the game. This is exactly what I do these days as well. The recent addition of the RRR chat box has been good too, as I've been joining when I get online. I then get a picture of what's occurring on that side from the updates that appear as I'm car hunting. With the 2 friends I most regularly play with, I know ahead of time if they're gonna be on or not and we coordinate via mobile. Most of the time, if there's only a couple of us then I prefer an open free roam to closed, there's more going on and you can do a bit of bounty hunting for fun, but I always go into invite 1st if they're not on already. Starting a multiple crew session instead is a great idea, will definitely look into that. If it's invite free then that's great. It is a real pain if you're getting kicked from session to session, slowest loading game I've had for years. Time consumption is a whole different level tho, I can spend my 1st and last hour on doing bugger all. Yesterday I stood around looking at my cars before going offline, as I often do, decided on a quick cruise in the Sabre. That lead to me robbing a store I'd not been in before and getting into a brief shootout with another customer. Lost the cops, hit a unique jump, tested all the in car quick actions, smoked all my cigs, ate all my snacks and drank all my beers- just to make as much litter as I could, got drunk on the apartment whiskey, tried to combine that effect with a bunch of bong hits, looked out the window... then realised I was just avoiding signing off for the evening and quit. 45 minutes after I'd intended to.

... then realised I was just avoiding signing off for the evening and quit. 45 minutes after I'd intended to. Haha, this is what happens to me often as well. I do know if you launch the multiple Crew session option that crew members and friends can join you if they select the Join Game option. The number of different crew tags allowed is set by the numerical option (max 4). The excpetion is if they do not have an active crew set it will not allow them to join or accept invite.

I always join solo session instead of invite only. That way friends can hop in.
