I guess I will start this off. If anyone does not know this, figured I would point it out. There are two different ways of installing GTAV on your Xbox. 1. Install the "Install Disc" to your HDD and play disc goes in and you play the game.
2. Insert a good fast thumbstick into your Xbox and let it format it. This will create a new Drive on your Xbox. Install the "Install Disc" to your HDD and insert your play disc, then go to Disc options. Instruct your Xbox to install the "Play Disc" to your new thumbdrive. After this is installed, Play the game.
The Xbox's CD channel is not as fast as the USB channel and I have been told it is actually on the same Bus circuit as the HDD so installing the Play Disc to the USB channel allows for better bandwidth on the mother board Bus circuit. This improves loading times and it also corrects Texture pop-in. Texture pop-in is when you are racing so fast the game can not keep up with you in terms of graphics, which can lead to trees or objects all of a sudden appearing. The game still needs the "Play Disc" inserted but it will change to using the USB to read from the game not the ROM drive.

I second this. I originally had just the install disc installed, but ran into a ton of freezing issues. Now, with the USB stick method, I RARELY freeze and almost never have texture/loading issues.

I really do not think it matters. Almost any thumbstick in today's standards is faster than the CD rom. I got an actual Xbox 360 thumbstick (created by SanDisk) off of Amazon for about $20. It is a 16gig if I remember. Amazon Prime, I got it free shipping in 2 days. The Xbox told me it probably wasn't fast enough but considering it says Xbox 360 on it, I kind of chuckled about it.

Just my 0.02 but iirc doesnt it have to be at least 12 gig due to the size of the dat file...
I remember all the texture issues on Xbox HDD installs bein discussed when GTAV was released and pretty certain the data file is about 10gb for Xbox, a lil smaller at 8.5 on the ps3

8 gig is the install. I wouldn't bother getting anything smaller than a 16gig though. You can't do this on the PS3 since it is all one install. I feel sorry for anyone who gets the downloaded version for the Xbox if they decide to bring it out at some point.

16 gb thumbsticks sell at radioshack, walmart, and kmart for about $5.00 anymore.
I have the install disc on my thumbdrive. Has anyone tried installing play and install on the same HD? 32 gb thumbstick is about $12. May be worth it to pick one up if this works.

Installing them on the same HDD would not work. It would be worse than just running it from disc and HDD. The bandwidth of the HDD can not handle both installs going through the same bus on the motherboard.

Just an FYI...I went to get myself one of these drives for this and found a deal/steal at Best Buy.
PNY 64gb USB flash drive it was labeled as 90 bucks but I got 65% off and got it for just less than $30.
So now I need to try this out...

For some reason, after this latest patch... when I have the zip drive (thumbstick / flash drive) in as I am booting up GTA it can't find my save file. I have to wait until it's loaded into GTA: O then put the stick in. It never did this before now... Weird!

My saves are on an internal drive.
Im questioning now whether I have disk 1 installed in the optimal place...you remember how much room was needed for the primary install?

If I remember correctly, they were both around 8 gigs.
