Didn't want to get involved with this at first, but I want to have my say.
I hate this mechanic. Curb riding ruins the experience for me, but no more than any level already discussed in this thread. I hope for the sake of my enjoyment that Rockstar eventually remove curb boosts from the game.
However, I also feel that petitioning against curb boosting is wrong. If Rockstar don't want to have a close to realistic racing sim, then who are you to tell them that they should? Time will tell if they get forced into making the change, but I feel that signing up to this is also agreeing with the philosophy that the customer is always right; something that as a Supermarket worker angers me greatly.
At the end of the day it's their game. You should either enjoy the game for what it is, or move on to something else if curb boosting is too much for you. I would understand your case if the vast majority of players wanted this change, but you have to remember that Rockstars target audience is monkey-mask wearing trolls who want chaotic races and bigger guns.
The "pure" racers in GTA are the minority. You have to accept that.

I'm in two minds about this whole petition and curb surfing in general.
While I do appreciate the reasoning behind the petition, I think the curb surfing adds an element of fun to the racing in gta. Like I've expressed beforehand, I adjust my racing style to whoever I'm racing with.
Maybe I'm too British, but I think these sorts of things can be agreed upon beforehand in a gentlemanly agreement where everyone agrees to either surf or not (more so for crew challenges).
When I'm racing with mainly apex and RRR I tend not to surf, however if I'm racing with mainly WHRE/NODO/RACE I will surf.
As mike witnessed last night when racing with me and a lot of te RACE guys, curb surfing can be achieved without knocking down poles. I also haste to say it, but this is an arcade game. No real race game gives you a boost when u hit accelerate on "go".
I'm also sorry to post this here in this thread, however I stupidly didn't put my thoughts down on paper when the other thread within RRR was open.
Therefore, I won't be signing the petition. I don't see any of the racin community or other crews as rivals, I hate the whole crew vs crew mentality. I'm here to have a good time. If I wanted serious racing I would put on gt6.
And I agree with bebbo that if r* wanted to remove the curb and bump affects they would have done so. They were fully aware that this existed in gta4 however they did nothing to remove it when they used the same engine to build 5.
Those are my two cents.
Peace and love x xx

While I do appreciate the reasoning behind the petition, I think the curb surfing adds an element of fun to the racing in gta. And I agree with bebbo that if r* wanted to remove the curb and bump affects they would have done so. How does driving over curbs to go faster make the game fun? I don't get this at all. Even on the nodo forums i see players i consider good defend bad game design like its 'all good" and thats how it should be. ....Wonder what they are smoking..? Just because R* didn't fix it 'yet' does not mean they wont. R* tends to fix things when enough of a stink is made. And this petition is that stink thats needed to fix such a stupid bug. Not enough of a stink was made in GTA 4 because it barely mattered for the most part. Its not as extreme as whats going on in GTA V/O There is no debate here so il just say it. It looks wrong, feels wrong and makes no sense. You want added elements, they already exist Gta racing... slip stream, traffic and catch up. But to turn all that stuff off and then play swallow the leader over curbs and side walks because players want added fun makes no sense at all. Its backwards to say the least. Some of you are already great racers. Do you really need to abuse a bug to go even faster? I don't think you do... Someone like bebbo would already be smoking my ass in most races even if he did not use sidewalks. But, if i refuse to side walk surf while he does the side walk surfing... Even if i race perfectly on the road, he would simply blow my ass out of the water and id be lucky to even finish a race. Thats how wack this bug is. But to each their own.. You might like it, some players do. But i despise it with a passion since the end result is not about the best racer, but who can abuse this bug the most. I go over my tracks plugging side walk gaps and hiding shit to punish players who seek out side walks. Infact i don't even enjoy racing in certain inner city areas anymore because of this. I prefer to race now where there are no curbs. And i can easily say those races are much more tight and enjoyable. Here's my new rule.. I smash side walk surfers off the road every chance i get. That adds an element of fun for me in this arcade like racing game. Just kiddin'... Or ... maybe im not.. Muahaa.

And as I said, I already appreciate your views and everyone's else's, hence why I said I don't curb surf when I'm racing with other drivers and crews who do not either.
I choose to curb surf when racing with others who do it is because I enjoy racing with the whole community, not just the half who decide not too.

I choose to curb surf when racing with others who do it And that in a nutshell is the problem.. Its like a disease. It infects the player who sees it. Then that player has to make a choice. Either do it too, or get left behind. Hence, the final result is everyone herp a derping down side walks and curbs. Which is currently what is happening, as you pointed out... Hell, i find myself doing that lately and i hate it. I don`t want to.. What if, i started taking side walks and slamming on the breaks just to cause huge pile ups that punish players that do this.. I doubt anyone would like that.. Alls i know is im glad this petition is started. Everyone should be signing this. People need to remember that Slip Stream was causing huge problems, after enough of a stink was made we got the option to `turn it off`. Then players where constantly crashing players and R* added Non Contact for people who hated getting smashed off the road.

Drawn in to comment at last by Empty's nicely balanced post. Much I agree with in there.
Unimportant places where we differ is that I don't find it (surfing) to be the very slightest bit fun and can't even imagine why it would be. I enjoy the ebb and flow of classical racing lines and not the often illogical and bizarre "line" dictated to me by each individual racing maps location of available go faster oddities should I wish to be truly "competitive" in GTA. I have been playing GTA for a year, on the road, as is logical to me so obviously I would prefer to race other people with a similar view ( like I made a choice to race with non rammers here) and can't see why, like emptyplayer, they cannot adjust themselves to local circumstances. The petition seeks to remove this option so I cannot get fully behind it either as it seems many will be upset by it's removal where only an agreement amongst competitors should be necessary. If for some reason people do not wish to conform to a majority choice under any circumstances, they are perfectly free to go and race with other like minded people.
I also find it hard to believe that when designing all those races Rockstar intended or expected us to run all together on skinny pavements instead of the roads any more than they intended for people to glitch money, cars, ufo's etc etc. But hey.
More Peace

When i say 'kerbin is baaad' i mean within the crew. There's a reason RACE always race non contact, you can't wrestle for position and overtake each other on the pavement. That doesn't mean it's wrong though, that's how they choose to play the game and people join the crew because they like to play that way, and RACE are also very good at it. If i wanted to race like that i would join a crew who raced like that, my point was we need to decide a stance on it now before every new members is a kerb surfer calling us fags because we phoned the kerb police. Some people may just be looking for a crew who don't want to kerb surf for any little advantage they can get, i'd join that one myself. not using curbs is like not wheeling while racing bikes. /thread. Other crews ^^^ Rewound and reopened because there is valuable discussion here.

Reigns vid has some good clarifcation examples.
My opinion-
0.05/0.40/1.02- Borderline. I would not have much of a problem with that. 0.24- Classic unnecessary surfing.

I was racing with a few guys from a well known race crew the other night and the amount of poles dropped onto the road by them because of pavement racing was shocking. It ruined everyone else's race. Yes, I am guilty of using the kerb to cut corners or gain a little speed but only if it is not off my line and is unobtrusive to other racers. Smashing down a tonne of posts to get that desperate leading edge is unacceptable to me. It's quite obvious in a race to know who the offenders are (usually around 5-10 secs ahead of everyone else and the trail of poles behind them gives it away). I agree with an addition to the GG of no excessive pavement racing.
