Like a sports race the crew did last week. A new race made by Cuz, about 8 of us. I start at the front of the pack and keep that position for a few secs. After these few secs I see the others having a major clusterfuck on the first corner that I got through clean. Right then, about 15 seconds into the first of three laps I already knew I was going to win the race. I had a big lead right from the bat and no one near me to be cautious around. Meanwhile the others are all slowing each other down in order to avoid hitting each other. Of course some do hit each other and have to wait. It's so ridiculous sometimes, just 15 seconds into a race the lot of them had 0% chance to win. It eliminates so much of the potential competition. I don't like winning that way and I don't like losing that way. . Thats the growing pains of a new track or a track youve never raced. If i threw you onto a track you've never seen/raced before, lets say Darlington Raceway, with 15 other racers who haven't races there, I'm sure they're would be some wrecks. Race there for a good couple weeks, i guarantee you no wrecks Moral of the story, cant expect a bunch of newbies to cleanly race and find the right racing lines in one turn.

Totally get all that Dave. Rest assured, NC will remain well represented. Did about 50/50 last night and it was a good blend. In fact, it was more 60/40 in favour of NC....

Agree fully with Dave, I actually prefer non contact for 2 reasons .... 1, If its a new race, obvious reasons. 2, If it's a race I know, for example any R* created race, as I know this track I actually drive worse as I am pushing the limits of what I am capable of to get a better fastest lap time for them damn leaderboards ! so last thing I want is my wrecklessness in pushing to hard to ruin the race of those around me, also with contact I get slightly annoyed if there is a gentle tap we feel the need to pull over, which also usually results in players behind joining the pile up which would of been a minor tap is now a 5 car pile up, if this happens with 2nd & 3rd as Dave says 1st has got an easy win, non contact eliminates all of that. I'm not saying if there is a serious crash we should not pull over, but I think the core racers who I race with day in day out, shouldn't feel the need to stop for me if there is minimal contact, I know from months of playing together the honesty and integrity is fully there. Best race I had recently was R* new blade race, had 8 players and 7 of us did 3 laps as one big blob, that really would not of happened in a contact race, as an accident would of split us all up on the first corner. Happy with how last night was played a good mix of both to keep all happy although that 0.62 with muscles was definitely a non contact race !!

It so was. Thank God the weather held out... I think its great we've got both. Some hosts will favour it and some won't so hopefully we can keep the mix right for everyone. Btw, I'm not a bit fussed about contact affecting my chances of winning a race. For obvious reasons, lol.

Firstly @dave. What Speedster said. What you are describing is a problem with the "drivers" not being good enough or smart enough to get through corner 1 without a smash up. The idea, methinks, is to learn how to drive rather than go immediately to NC just cos some are clearly unable to manage themselves with contact on. It's a cop out and a sop for piss poor driving and yus m'lud I have erred on occasion but along with most of you, have, in the main, learned enough to avoid such tomfoolery. Secondly, and this may be just me. I could barely give a toss about winning. In a 5 or 7 minute race and with a random grid, No-one should expect to win everything. The chances of me coming first if I should be randomly placed at the back of a grid are low and so what?. My fun, enjoyment, involvement, satisfaction etc will come from learning to exercise skill and control of my on screen vehicle and to race it to as high a position as I can in those minutes with all of you real solid lovely people and not at all by my final position although a win is a happy bonus of course. So called Racing crew lobbies are now full of types that like to use NC purely because they can't stand plebs like you or me having the ability to"interfere" with their god given right to on track progress in any way. They are time trialers not racers for whom only results matter. They can be fast but actually resent others presence on track because only results matter not the journey. You are only allowed into their lobby to witness their leet skills at time trialing. What we have here with NC is a time trial with everyone on track at the same time cos its a video game and they can do that. A motor race is a bunch of people having to skilfully interact with each other on the same track at the same time in vehicles and at speed whilst trying to get the best result they can without damaging themselves or others. It takes takes a fair bit of skill. Much, much more than merely being fast. It is why I joined a racing crew. If a person can't cope with that?. NC on till you get better then. Wishing peace, love and free cakes for you all of course in case this post looks a little belligerent or is directly pointing a finger at anyone. It's not, but I will continue to dispute that NC is proper racing in the same manner as I would argue that alcohol free beer is so very not beer. P.s NC is fine and dandy sometimes. Just not nearly as often as I am seeing it nor for the reasons that some use it. (i.e as a way to negate their own or others shit driving or to nullify an opponents ability to "interfere" in their race.)

I almost never host races with contact off if I am inviting friends and crew unless the track itself was designed and defaulted to non-contact. Examples would be my races "Flight of the Phoenix" and "Have a Hairpin" which would both be nightmares with contact on.
If I am hosting and allowing randoms in I prefer non-contact for two reasons. 1- I play this game to have fun and entertain myself. Having people purposely run me off the road is frustrating for me and therefore not fun. 2- if I am racing randoms it means that either no friends are online or I was already frustrated by something during a crew race and I just want to blow off steam. Non contact garuntees clean and will give me the time i need to relax and cool off while still having someone to compete with.
If I am joining random hosted races I will just accept whatever the settings are except for traffic...that is an instant no go for me.

Nice post Trak, I agree 100%.
Last week we had a muscle night. Contact on for all of the races IIRC. Lots of the new 0.62 tracks, which are often quite tight. These still worked fine as contact races imo. Good fun! With the 0.62 tracks being so short there is the added element of lapping and back markers to some of the races too. Overtaking never felt like a problem to me, stick behind someone, watch their cornering, get a better line than them, better exit speed, fly past on the straight. It's a skill that's more fun to learn and perfect than simply learning to put in fast laps imo.
NC races definitely feel more like multi player time trials to me. I'm not that bothered if someone hosts a race as NC, I just think, oh well I'll just go for fast laps then. But like I said before, there is a whole element of racing missing during these.
I couldn't care less if a contact race gets in the way of me getting the fastest lap or a win. When I do get a win on a great contact race it feels much more rewarding after waiting for the right opportunities and pulling off a few good clean overtakes.
