A few weeks ago I was playing this extremely long water/sea race for Speeder boats only. I've played it a couple of times with the same set of randoms, with the exact same outcome. Every time whenever a long straight way came up to the next checkpoint, I was falling behind fast. I made up for it in the corners somewhat, but not nearly enough to cover the distance they won by just speeding away from me on the straight parts. Catchup was on, and even that wasn't good enough to keep up.
I can only assume it has something to do with holding the analog stick either forward or backward, but I can't really figure out which is faster. Or if it's faster to not hold the analog stick forward or backward at all. On motorcycles it's pretty clear, hold the analog stick forward on straight roads as much as possible, but I can't really tell if the same thing goes for boats.
Does anyone have an idea? And whether or not the same thing goes for the Seashark jetski?

I think it's more about taking the waves the best way to avoid time without contact to the water, e.g. lean forward to press down a coming wave... I hope you get me

I hold the stick back the entire race on boats. I also hold the A button for the entire race to make sharper turning. I have top 100 times on all the lapped boat races.

Yeah, what Luap says. Except for the top 100 part. The moment I get a top 100 in anything, y'all will know about it. I did wonder if there was some kind of subtlety when tacking against waves but you don't question that kind of leaderboard action

Thanks for the help. The A button, that would be the handbrake on land vehicles? I use that to take corners with boats but I've never held it throughout the race. Would you happen to know how this works for the Seashark? I'm not quite sure whether to go for the boat strategy (holding the stick back) or the bike strategy (pressing the stick forward).

No difference between jetski and boat I believe.

Always hold back, like popping a wheelie on a bike timing does help Never used the handbrake though ! will try next year when I get around to another sea race lol

All boats are the same. As one said above sometimes you will need to take into account the waves and such but for the most part I only push forward when I am getting some serious air off a wave or jump ...it seems to bring it back to the water faster.
