I'm worried. My old 2008 Dell is black screening at random intervals and despite bunging some money at it recently for a new graphics card and a professional defluff it continues to do so.
Therefore have bitten the awfully expensive bullet and ordered a new one custom built using bits of my choosing. It is way more capable than I need for my internet surfing duties but have chosen all good upper tier parts with a view to longevity and stability.
The specs for anyone that gives a shit:
Fractal Design 'C' midi case.
Intel i5 7400 quad core cpu
Noctua NH-U12s CPU air cooler
Asus Prime B250plus Motherboard
2x4GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM
500GB Samsung evo SSD
EVGA 550w superNOVA "gold" certified fully modular power supply
"Extra" Corsair case fan. (2 Fractal fans front, 1 Corsair rear).
Windows 10 Home edition.
My worries come from not being all that very good at geekery and having to work out how to get Windows 10 (Win 7 atm) to work as I want it to and get what's needed from old PC on there as well (recieved external HDD in the post today so think I got the right gear). I know what I want but don't know how to get it...yet.
I probably could have got something for less than half the price of this little lot to do the little I need it to but then wheres the fun in that?.

I'll post a link later for you T, but it is (or was until last month I know) still possible to get win10 free still by simply saying to Microsoft that you will be using the built in applications such as on board keyboard, magnifying glass etc all the stuff meant to aid. Did you get a graphics card too?

Yer, bookmarked that Win10 tidbit a whiles ago e but probbly cos I couldn't be arsed with installing it myself and other reasons decided to pay the nice man to do it instead. Then, at least in theory, I will get a fully working and fully tested new PC that should work somewhat as I would wish, straight out of the box. That's a big win for me. I am going to have enough trouble just acclimatising to Win10 and adjusting it to taste. I am hoping I can successfully get all the good stuff from old to new too. It will help a lot if I can. Never done nowt like it afore. External HDD+usb cable came this a.m. Too scared to plug it in yet in case it leaks...or something . Thought long and hard about whether I really wanted to game on PC empty and the answer was no. The incoming integrated Intel gpu is way better than the outgoing card that is in my old machine and that is already quite capable of taking care of any thing the Internet has to throw at it. I was sorely tempted for a moment to get something that would play Assetto Corsa at the maximum capabilities of my current slightly weird 1920x1200 monitor. But, to ensure even that I would need better and therefore more expensive stuff throughout the build plus the additional properly-capable-of-doing-the-job graphics card at around £240. Couldn't justify it all in the end plus I'd sooner play games with ma buds on P.s. init

I need all my old Emails moved over plus all my bookmarks, passwords and preferences. It's all very confusing and I am afraid to start for fear of messing up. Dangit!. Why couldn't the danged PC have just lasted forever like nothing ever does?.

You can be happy you did not suffer the first windows 8 that Microsoft managed to spit out...

Sounds good T. If you were using google you can import your bookmarks that way? And I'm not that all clued up on cpu but the one you have sounds good. And I wouldn't buy another ssd until you need one. They've been coming down in price a lot in the last 18 months or so and will continue to do so. I bet you are noticing the difference from the hdd. The performance upgrade you get from an ssd is huge for ya buck. I got my previous employer to replace the hdd in my pc to an ssd as I argued it would be a lot more efficient. The boot up times in the morning went from 15 mins to 2 mins. Glad it's going okay so far!!

Who the hell decided to throw the alphabet into maths? Specs look rad T, and if thats a pure SSD, not a SSHD, you'll be flying. i'm about to throw my windows pc out the window(pun?) for a full on mac. As much as I love the customizability of a windows, i would actually like to use it rather than stare at updates everytime i boot up, and constant bloody security scans.
