Pimp My Race!
What?
A collaborative challenge for the race creators of GTA Online.
How?
The way PMR works is that two people agree to collaborate. The first person creates a route in Creator, i.e. places all the checkpoints*. The second person uses this route to build the track using props etc. So the job for the first person is easy – you just throw a route down. For the second person, you simply create a track the same way you normally would, except someone else has chosen your route!
Why?
Collaborating is cool. The idea of collaborating closely with someone to create a track, for example using SharePlay, is a very cool idea. However, it is not entirely practical; you would both need to be online at the same time, both in the mood to create at the same time, you might argue over who hosts the track, what route to choose, which props to place, etc. With PMR, it is a simplified process; one person chooses a route, the other person builds a track however they choose. Just a simple and cool way to collaborate with other creators to produce fresh new tracks.
Who?
Anyone who likes to create races! PMR originated as a RRR idea and the first batch of PMR tracks will come from a challenge between RRR members and a group of Japanese creators. But you are more than welcome to use this idea with a friend, or to get a group of people together the same way we are doing, perhaps within your crew or collaborating with a group of people from another crew. Just remember to tag all finished PMR creations #PMR so everyone can find them on Social Club!
Creating The Route
* The easiest way to give someone a route is either by publishing it, OR by posting an unlisted video of the track on YouTube, then just send the link to the other person so they can view the route and copy it into Creator. If you choose the YouTube option, you can either record yourself running the race in a car, OR you can simply record a video of the camera moving around the route in Creator.Track Length:
Try to keep the track length around 1.5 to 3.0 miles. This is only an approximate length – just don't create a 9 mile route or a 0.62 basically (unless agreed with the other person!)
Terrain:
Keep it on-road (unless you and the other person agree to create a rally track). Also don't create routes in the sky – keep it on the map!
Bridges and stunt road links:
It's ok to encourage bridges and linking different roads using props, i.e. two checkpoints either side of a river (see example images below). But please don't be excessive – don't put two checkpoints miles apart at significantly different heights. Keep it realistic and feasible. If you are linking different roads in this way and you can't drive from one checkpoint to the next, you will need to either use the YouTube option to show your video via camera in Creator (see example video above), or use simple placeholder props (a stretch of barges or even a jump) to enable you to complete/publish the race.
Vehicles:
Choose a route suitable for fast car classes (unless agreed with the other person).
Building The Track
Don't create tracks in the sky – your route will be on the ground so apart from bridges and joins, e.g. linking two checkpoints either side of a river, please keep the track on the ground. Also please avoid jumps, stunts and boosts - this challenge is designed for 'pure' races, not stunt races. Using stunt roads or building blocks to raise the surface of the road (e.g. to cover poles and barriers) is ok.
Checkpoints:
You can tweak checkpoints if you need to. You can also add/remove checkpoints as long as it doesn't significantly alter the route. For example, you might want to include a chicane on the route in the example video between checkpoints 7 and 8, or you might want to divert people through the car park after checkpoint 7 - this would require one or two additional checkpoints, which is fine. Or you might want to use props to smooth/join a section of the route, which may necessitate removing a checkpoint or two. As long as your track stays true to the original route overall, checkpoint tweaks are ok.
Vehicles:
Unless otherwise agreed with the router, try to design tracks which are suitable for fast car classes.
Tag it:
