I would send you an invite to the chat, but I'm lucky to have figured out how to join it myself.

Thought Skype was just text chat. Is there a limit for audio chat like with the PS4 party chat?

It is a text chat, but i don't know how or if I can invite anyone into it. I think fnord or speed set it up.

Forgive me if this has been answered already but is there a RRR1 party chat on the PS4, does anybody use it, and if so can somebody send me an invite? lol

Not as far as I know Mack. We did look at it I think but being limited to 8 people meant it wasn't much of a look. We do have a growing number of mic users tho and I think there would be some appreciation of us having one. Never been a headset person myself but setting one of these up might help us coordinate with the mic'd up and Skypeless...

Been wondering this myself. I know some people use mics but I don't generally plug mine in unless I get an invite. I even bought the PS Vita mic as an upgrade over the stock PS4 mic. Would be nice to use it a little more

The Skype chat also serves different functions to party chat and headsets. People will be chatting and catching up regardless of whether they are in the same session, same game or even logged on to their ps4s. The chat can be read back, so people can find out about things whether they were there at the time or not. And there is no 8 person limit, we can all be in it.

I was thinking that the PS4 party chat could be useful if someone posted in there every once in a while about upcoming playlists, events, or get-togethers, just so people who don't use Skype would at least know if something was going on for that day.

Wait, the party chat includes text? I thought it was a voice only chat.

Thought it was voice only too. Too many chat options starting to make my head hurt.

I thought there was an option for text there but honestly I have only ever joined a party chat when friends were using mics.

The chat party is for mics and typing plus a few other cool features, to type a message just press triangle in the chat screen, i doubt i'll be in skype for a while so i'll have a play, only down point is only 8 people can join

Well that'll be cool, keyboard deficiency aside. Consider me joined. Although, how does it work if you're talking to people in a heist? Would you be talking to everyone in the party chat? Can you be in but text only or....

It would be cool if we could be in the PSN text chat, whilst also using our mic for talking ingame... Like, uh, you could on PS3. So, still a downgrade for me. Skype FTW.

Been meaning to post this for a bit so apologies for the lateness.
Party chat is a lame duck for our purposes imo. Game/chat priority, no notification of new text replies and it also seems that once everyone has left the party, it dies and takes everything with it.
However, I think that RRR group message stream we set up (and mostly subsequently left) is very workable and essential for those of us nonSkyped. I used it last Funday to communicate with Dam and Don. As an actual chat room, it's shit but for simple coordination and information on what we're up to, its tons better than nothing, particularly with the invite lists so rubbish atm. I was able to tell Don when I was set to launch and where everyone was. I also got Dam into the lists later on, even tho I had no clue he was online. Main thing about it is that you get a notification when someone posts. Obviously be good to avoid spamming it as every single msg will be a saved notification you receive when signing back in.
So, I'd suggest regular Skypers who host and help coordinate activity as well as those without Skype, get themselves invited to it ASAP. I'm in it already, as are Don and Dam ofc. Emptyplayer and Worthsclio also seem to be on the list. I'll send some invites when I can and post who else is in at some point but for now, msg 1 of us and get an invite sent, if you don't get one in the near future.

Maybe it's just me but the thing I probably like most about using Skype is its NOT on my ps4? I can be doing something on gta AND chatting in skype instead of having to idle in game constantly while I type in another window on the PS - did my head in about ps3 tbh.
Also I LOVE checking skype whilst working or out somewhere to see if any of my awesome crewmates will be on when I get back home, it helps me decide whether to stay for another beer at the pub or not! Haha!
Also the prospect of switching my ps4 on and getting psn message spam, when the sytem still doesnt work well for me, i receive notifications of a message and receive them through the psn app on my phone a good few minutes before they show up on my ps4, sounds horrific, the party notifications are already quite annoying sometimes!
What is wrong with skype? You can get it completely free for any machine with an Internet connection... which anyone on this forum clearly has and its piss easy to use... already got loads of the crew on it?
At the end of the day I'm not looking to cut anyone out, I joined this crew to meet new people, not alienate them, so if we make a decision as a group to change then ill be right with you. Let's talk.

Don't get me wrong mate, it's not a change, I love Skype. It's just an addition to keep people who don't have it in the loop. Some use the console to browse the net so can't do that and game at the same time. In other cases Skype has proven utterly rubbish as an app on certain devices (apple? I dunno). We just need some people who are on regular to be in both in order to maintain a line of communication. I've often got multiple conversations going on at once in various places when event hosting so it's no bother to me and may even relieve that to some degree. I can't see it doing much as a chat room but as a crew notice board, as Mack suggests, I think it's a necessity. Don't need everyone in Skype to join it but the more the merrier eh.
In fact, calling it a notice board is just perfect imo.

Problem for me is finding something to run Skype on, my laptop is fucked and the cheap tablet I brought is 50/50 if it charges ?? I'm happy to do whatever I can without the use of Skype just let me know as it does (and has) get very lonely without communication

I bought a really decent headset for about 20 quid off eBay Don, that default one is pish. Don't actually use the mic THAT much but combined with more people using the 'notice board' it could soothe feelings of lonesomeness considerably. I'll get a link up if you're interested.

Mic is a no no also, part of keeping the peace with her indoors !! don't worry about me, just a message or 2 from those playing would be nice it would avoid situations like yesterday were I joined a crew heist only to be kicked as the spaces had been bagsied in the Skype chat room !!
