This weekend sees the F1 circus back on the road and ready to rock down under in Melbourne, Australia.
Winter testing and Friday practice for this weekends event so far indicate Mercedes have gotten even faster. Expect more of the same from last year. Not a bad thing surely. Ding dong.
Of the rest, Ferrari look to have made the biggest improvements over last year and the battle for second could be an entertaining and intense battle between RedBull, Williams and Ferrari.
The much publicised return of Honda to F1 and the back end of a McLaren has gone exceedingly badly from the get go and maybe even worse than could have been expected. Alonso, their new, expensively hired driver, will be sitting this one out on doctors advice due to a bump on the head concussion received in a pre-season test shunt. Being, as I am, from a whole other era of motorsport where men were men and manfully killed or maimed themselves on a regular basis I won't say what I think about that. Oh ok then, you twisted my arm. PUSSY!!!.
Let the show begin.

It's been nearly a month. There's no reason to keep him out of the car.

My guessing is they have to keep him out of it until 100% cause of insurance purposes? Not sure, but agree he should surely be okay to get back in.
Bring on racing (or bbc1 highlights?)

Hey Adam yeah I agree with the too predictable. On Kimi I thought he looked pacey today, was happy as larry for him. Thought Vettel was a bit rude on the first corner tbh, a move that shouldn't be used on teammates especially when they've performed a better start. Its not the move inside, the exit left kimbo no room, I'd hope in those situations he'd leave a line open for teammates. Even though he'd slotted back in 8th he was looking good till pitstop 1, and 5 sec extra didn't stop his undercut of nasr, who yeh drove really well. Lewis was great at handling the podium commentary I thought too

Mercedes>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>everybodyelse. and it's not even had to be turned up to 11 yet . Yin=1 Honda fails to get to grid. Yang=other finishes race (by far the most laps it has managed to run phutless). Seriously though, the "show" looked pretty weak for this one with it's unfortunately short grid and all. Bernie must be hoping things pick up. The "casual" public will lose interest quickly if it all begins to look like last years championship repeated.

@traksta1 you left a few >>>>'s out bro. And really the same can be said for the gap between Lewis and Nico. Imo the 2nd half of the race Lewis was basically toying with him. The 1st race of the season doesn't always give a good indication, but this was a 2 car 1 man show

These last few posts got me thinking about the last time a F1 race was truly exciting. I mean the highlights of the race would have to be at least a quarter of the race or around 15 laps worth. And these last few years of F1 would be lucky to have 2 laps of highlights really. I'm not talking about a certain driver, like the rookie who pulled off the 5th place. His fans would enjoy more of the race because they are his fans and he achieved an outstanding result. But if its just the actual racing I'm thinking Brazil a few years ago. I think it was Webbers last race, but I've never really been a real Webber fan. That race was great because the shackles seemed to be off and drivers were going at it hard. Seemed like several passes per lap, for every lap until half way when they settled into the groove. . F1 used to be great in the early years.

I think Canada a few years ago was one of the most exiting for me when button came from pretty much dead last to win the race as he had slicks as the rain cleared. Drive of his life!

Yeah I think he was dead last early on. Definitely a great drive. Was he was driving a McClaren that year?

I gotta agree, F1 has really lost the whole aura that it used to have. Even though im a Seb fan, even when RB was dominating it was no fun to watch the majority of the time. And now its more of the same just with a different livery and motor. As much as I hate to say it, it would almost be more enjoyable if it was more like a spec race. Then it would truly be down to drivers skill (which is a whole nother discussion, due to the majority of drivers buying their ride), minus the odd adjustments the garge could make. I don't remember the last time I watched a race, and actually watched the whole thing, I think it was abu dhabi 09, where Schu got wrecked in lap 1. Nowadays its just something i put on tv when Im doing stuff around the house. And dont get me started on the v6's, im sorry but what is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport should not have v6's with huge turbos, theres no replacement for displacement. Give me the old v10's where you could feel them on the other side of the track. I used to be proud to be an f1 fan, and was happy to talk shit to nascar fans, but even nascar is more exciting right now. SOmething I never thought I would say.

Schumi wrecked lap 1. Brain cells ignited, and they're pointing at the chicane just before the hairpin/longest straight. Was it Nico who spun him? . Pay for a seat is a big problem imo, diluting the field. And V6s... find a clip of the shittest cars of the 90s and listen to that heavenly sound. . Btw I love nascar, reminds me of a school of fish with sharks circling. Though the start of some races, 2 or 3 lanes continuous reminds me of peak hour traffic on the motorway/highways. And those tracks where 2 cars join nose to tail, 1 pushing the other for extra speed. Idk bout that look

m.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/118146 WTF!! No F1 in Germany 2015? Bernie probably has a replacement in mind. Somewhere like Antarctica, where he'll fill his pockets and be able to move the f1 to a different place with no interest next season. He's done good things to f1, but I can't think of any in the past 3yrs.

I can picture Hobbs opening the broadcast: " Welcome to the inaugural Antarctic F1 Race" Along with every driver crying about grip, "its like driving on ice." And Buxton completley covered by a parka, his reporting would sound like Kennny from south park. And Bernie sitting in a chair in his undergound bunker on some pacific island watching the live feed, while petting his cat, like a bond villain.
Is it just me or is Bernie ruining the sport? Im the yank commenting on F1, so I defer to all those across the pond for this one.

Bernie has his issues, but the fans also treat him like a boogy man. Without him we would just have some anonymous “they” governing body to blame for the woes of F1. It’s not like we ask for too much, we only want: -Cars that are even on track, so it’s a test of driver skill. -Cars that are affordable so that we can eliminate pay drivers. -Cars that are at the forefront of automotive technology. -But no KERS, Hybrid, or other electronic drive train components. -Also must be a V8, V10, or V12. -V6’s are bad. -And 4 cyclinders are right out. -But they can’t be spec cars. The cars must be completely unique, while meeting all previously stated requirements. -We want to see old tracks brought back. Places like Imola and Brands Hatch. -We want the tracks to all meet current safety standards. -We want men to be men, knowing that they risk it all when they are on track. -We can’t believe it when a tragedy happens, and want to know who is to blame.
I’m not saying the Bernie has it rough, because he’s got the best damn job in the world, and he has more money than I can comprehend. I’m just saying that as fans we may expect a little too much from him, or anyone in his position.

No. Bernie helped make the sport into the globally recognised thing it is today. Which is good for me because it is now a "premium" sport where companies and even governments will happily pay through the nose merely to be associated with it's perceived marvellousness. The Big Show televised across the globe, utilising the very silliest, fastest and most expensive 4 wheel toys human ingenuity, national and corporate funding can conjure up and all for my personal enjoyment. Cheers Bern.
For me, he has paid his dues to this sport by getting his start and interest in it in an era when involvement meant having to go to funerals for your friends rather a lot. Importantly, he cares. Bernie has made a lot of dough for himself yes, but he has also made a whole lot of money for his racing buddies, this country and a whole lot of other people too. Successful bosses do that.
When he is gone, those that are left to run the game will be money counting don't care nobobs who have not one ounce of the heart and love of the game that he surely still has. The present engine regulations that seem to be at middle and centre of F1's current popularity dip (for barely interested lightweights anyway) are not of his making but rather those of the would be future controllers of F1 i.e Big manufacturers seeking to control and use the sport purely to grind their own marketing axes. Just the kind that Bernie managed to put a lid on back in the day.

Just the kind that Bernie managed to put a lid on back in the day. That right there is the problem. But, he/ F1 need the money from the manufacturers. So its a catch 22. same thing happened when pirelli got back in the sport a couple years ago. Everyone hated it until they worked out the kinks. And dont get me wrong, I wasnt saying Bernie never did anything good. He has done amazing things, it just seems that what he has created has gotten away from him. Which makes sense with your statement above. But then again, he is the face for F1, and he is somewhat still in control. I guess we're just seeing F1 go thru this growing pains phase. Which has a lot to do with getting it back to being popular worldwide.

Quick comment re the week-ends two big ones now there is little chance of spoilers.
Yay!. Well done g.o.a.t!. V.Rossi wins first MotoGp of season in a race that even looked good on live text (all I have sadly).
Anybody have a tenner on the result of boring and predictable F1?. Thought not. Hehe.

If it was Kimi that had won I'd be jumping through hoops, despite being a Hamilton (Maclaren) fan.
Vettel is a cock.
Ferrari looked good on pace, 2 stop strategy would've beaten Merc's 3 stopper even without safety car imo.
Normal service will resume in China though. Ferrari should pay for all tracks to have undertrack heating installed.

I was surprised by Vettel, I thought the only chance he had was going to be if it rained. I’m hoping that Ferrari can at least make things interesting throughout the season, and I still think Williams can be on pace with Merc. I’m a Massa fan, so I’m hoping he can pick up a few podiums and maybe a win this season.

I "watched" that moto gp race on twitter too mate. First time I've "watched" anything like that. Was pretty excited tbh, Dovi and Jorge going at it, and from out of nowhere Rossi joins em on the last lap and goes on to win. Or something like that happened, never thought it'd be worth reading a race live, but whadyaknow

Figures, the first race where Merc wasnt leading by over 30 seconds, adn I didnt even get to watch it. Cancelled our cable on Saturday, and Im trying to find a good streaming site, so I dont have to watch it live in the middle of the night on my inlaws cable.
That being said, from the highlights, it looked good. Nice to see at least one other team competing. I really thought it wouldve been Williams to do it first as well. Which wouldve been great for Massa/ and even better for Alonso. haha. But Ill take a seb win.

Good weekend for me as a V.Rossi and L.Hamilton fanman (Lulu because of his driving ability, not his out of car persona). Both won. Lulu in total control. Nuff said. Vale storming up from behind, squeezing an error from a slightly too keen to get back past Marquez on the penultimate lap resulting in Marc face-planting and DNFing. It's on. Go G.O.A.T.

That was unfortunate for MM going down like that. I didn't catch that race but saw the highlights and thought the same "this could be a awesome 2way battle to the championship" I gather from highlights that Rossi timed his race beautifully with another last lap (penultimate) pass for victory. Maybe the fires been stoked with all the glory heap on the youngster, 9x champ probably wouldn't appreciate hearing Marquez being considered best ever so early on in his career. Idk tbh, just guessing but when was the last time Rossi won 2 this early into a season? (was it that year he broke his arm n either Jorge or Casey won title. Again idk) but I'm looking forward to the next few rounds of moto gp. The wiley old fox vs the young gun.
. In the F1 which I did see, I thought both Ferrari and Mercedes raced hard, good to see. Ham controlled it again, unlike his first season with silver arrows where he had all out speed every lap. But I was impressed with Ferrari and the strategy for kimi. Was exciting watching a fast driver come through like that. Seb n nico drove great too, except both making mistakes on the same corner. . I dare say in equal cars (seb in RBR in top form and Lewis in this years form/car) Lewis would win a close championship due to his race craft. Just my opinion.

Boring race, but I love that track. It's my favorite to drive on F1, and it looks great on TV. I wish they would do away with the stupid turn 14/15 chicane and bring back the high speed turn 13. And of course the true hero of the day

Ouch!. Bit nastier than it may look since right wishbone broke through tub and went through his right thigh into left leg too and ended up near hip according to reports. Could have been worse, no bones broken and thanks to quick intervention from medical staff didn't bleed out on the spot. Hopefully he will make a full recovery.
Indy 500 practice yesterday.

Thankfully the med team got to him quickly, wish him a speedy recovery. This is the third crash, and again, the car almost flips, couldve hurt him even more.
